Public anger and distrust are spiralizing out of control following the "ballot shortage crisis" that occurred during the election on June 3rd. This controversy did not stop in Seoul but erupted concurrently across multiple regions nationwide. In particular, Election Commission staff members compromised the integrity of the process by failing to use official transport envelopes or properly seal the additional ballots when procuring them from outside, drawing severe backlash for flawed election management. Furthermore, public outrage was stoked when a local polling station official reportedly made a dismissive comment regarding citizens' suffrage, suggesting, "We only have 50 ballots left, so why don't we just let 50 more people vote?" Compounding this anger, controversy surrounding the voting share of foreign residents with permanent residency has intensified the public's sense of disenfranchisement and resentment. Despite the mounting evidence of nationwide mismanagement and growing suspicions, the National Election Commission (NEC) firmly maintains that there are no legal issues regarding the voting process and that a re-vote is impossible, ensuring that the controversy will not die down anytime soon. (I maintain a politically neutral stance)
